Lenten Lecture by Fr Roger Dawson SJ - "How to be a Hero"

Date: 04 March 2012
Time: 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Location: Upper School

The Lenten Lecture - an evening lecture for parents and boys together on a theme for Lent.  It will be followed by a light supper then mass at 8.10 p.m. in College Chapel.  The speaker is Fr Roger Dawson SJ, the former soldier also known to his friends as the "pedalling padre".

Fr Roger Dawson SJ is a Jesuit and is part-time priest-chaplain at Wimbledon College, a Jesuit boys' school in SW London.  He was an officer in an infantry regiment, the Royal Green Jackets (now the Rifles), for 8 years and after he left the Army he trained and worked as a clinical psychologist.  He was Asst Catholic Chaplain at Oxford University for three years and he has twice been Chaplain to the Help for Heroes Big Battlefield Bike Ride.  He does not regard himself as a hero, but hopes to do one truly heroic thing before he dies.

The Lecture is entitled "How to be a Hero".  'What am I going to do with my life?' is a question most of us face at some point.  Unlike the celebrities, heroes do not focus on themselves, but have taken risks and made sacrifices for others.  As Catholics, we are asked to do the same for God and our neighbour.  So how do we get ready?
